The Demon King
by Cinda Williams Chima
Wow!
It had a slowish start for me and I was a bit annoyed with the stubbornness of the Princess Raysa and the mysterious Cuffs Alister. However, soon I found their character building and evolving, and showing power and wisdom beyond their years, even though still making the common mistakes of youth.
One thing that immediately drove me was my suspicions about the Demon King (the powerful wizard of old that broke the world) and Hanalea’s (the warrior queen that saved the world and was loved by the Demon King) lineage, which in the end were confirmed.
This is a book full of great characters, the good and evil ones. The young and main characters are full of potential and destiny. The world build is amazing, and I already feel completely pulled into it. I love magic, and the power of the wizards being used for evil and for good is always so appealing, as is a savvy and sassy Princess, who wants romance and flirting, but is not going to settle with the first one she meets., which is refreshing in this genre. I have my hopes obviously, shipping her with Cuffs, although I have a feeling the author is not going to give it to me, or that soon anyway. Although, I’m sure their paths will cross soon again, as will theirs with Micah, the dark and gorgeous young wizard who reminds me a bit of HP’s Malfoy, twisted by family and the power of magic.
Can’t wait to dive in the next book, and find out more about these young powerful players, and what their destiny reserves them.
