Mr. and Mrs. Bunny--Detectives Extraordinaire! by Polly Horvath

This is a vocabulary rich story for the late elementary set. A human child named Madeline is the only character in the book with good sense. Her parents (anti-establishment hippies), Mr. and Mrs. Bunny (detectives of a sort), the Foxes (the bad guys) and the Marmots round out the cast of characters. The whole thing is pretty whacky. There are some funny lines but I wonder if the humor is more meaningful to an adult. It would probably appeal to an off-beat kid with a huge appreciation for words.
