Rustic Hearts by Amber Kelly

4.0

This is a low 4 star from me.

Rustic Hearts is the story of how Sophia was taken (by her mother) from her home when she was 12, and moved to New York, far from the family ranch in Colorado.

I loved Braxton and Sophia together. I just thought it took WAY WAY too long for her father to come forward with the truth of what happened when she was taken by her mother. And frankly, I thought her mother was a complete nutcase and should have been held more accountable for everything Sophia lost. There were some little inconsistencies that slowed my enjoyment - like Huckleberry was supposed to be 18 years old and still no one could ride him on the regular?

It's definitely a slow burn. There's barely any attraction until they're sleeping together - which takes place much later in the book. And then Braxton's in love with her but he's hardly even said a kind word to Sophia, let alone that he likes her or loves her.

I'm off to attempt the 2nd book in the series. I did enjoy this book but I was definitely not invested early due to the long drag out of the angst in Sophia.
