This started off well, became flat in the middle and ended on a surprisingly good note.

All of that happened across a total read time of 7-8 hours, so it's a quick, effortless, popcorn thriller. You're not going to get any literary gems in this, but is pacy & keeps you engrossed.

My main gripe with this book is that after chapters and chapters of fear, tension and build up, the main "crime" felt so tame. And I found the reactions from people regarding this crime so laughably exaggerated. So I was not feeling the "motive" at all, which really is the spine of the story.

On the other hand, the ending was surprisingly well done and nuanced. It felt raw and human and real, and the author ties it all up neatly. And I believed and appreciated every characters act at the end.
I'd say I liked the book mostly because of the ending.

I only wish the main crime/trigger had also been something stronger. Something that explained this saga of revenge and retribution.
