Go Luck Yourself by Sara Raasch

3.0

Okay, I was absolutely over the moon when I read Sarah Raasch's The Nightmare Before Kissmas, so buying the sequel Go Luck Yourself was a no-brainer. Plus, I'm a sucker for a holiday romance! With Coal assuming more and more Christmas responsibility, Kris is beginning to feel left out. When it is discovered that St. Patrick's Day may be stealing magic from Christmas, he jumps at the opportunity to be useful and offers to investigate. What could possibly go wrong? Only that the Crown Prince of St. Patrick's Day happens to be Lochlann Patrick, the stubborn, redheaded jerk that Kris recently played a tinsel prank on that went viral. And the fact that Kris can't seem to get Lochlann out of his head.

Loch and Kris are both amazing. I loved Coal and Hex, don’t get me wrong, but I definitely enjoyed this pairing a fair bit more. From the initial altercation over the study room, I was hooked and couldn’t wait to see how the tension between the two of them would explode. Although I was sort of over Kris pining for Iris in The Nightmare Before Kissmas, I was really drawn to him, because of the special relationship he shares with Coal. I was excited to see him as the protagonist in this novel and he really is a gem. I think one of the most special aspects of Go Luck Yourself is the journey of self-discovery and love that Kris goes through. I do wish there had been firmer resolution, on the page, between the boys and their parents but it didn’t necessarily take away from my love of the story.

I was also a sucker for the humor and concern lurking behind Loch’s tough exterior. To be completely honest, I’m totally jealous of Kris. The intimate scenes in this book were pretty great. I loved how annoyed he was about Hex attributing some Halloween customs to England. This book had a lot of strengths, but something that did annoy me is there were certain *big* moments that didn’t feel like they were given proper gravity, particularly with Loch’s storyline with his uncle. The romance is great, but sometimes the other plot points seem to fizzle. It irritated me, but my goodness do I want more of this adorable series.
