Starling House by Alix E. Harrow

5.0

I debated on what to rate this. 4 stars. 4.5? 4.75? Then I asked myself why I was rating down, and I couldn’t answer. So I’m giving a full 5 stars.

I really did love this story. It took my awhile to read for lots of reasons. It’s not a hard read, but it is detailed, and I didn’t want to miss a thing. I also had a week where my brain just couldn’t read and I spent too much time on TikTok. But I gotta say that every time I picked this book up, it was such a joy to continue.

Starling House is a unique tale imo. I would describe it as fantastical lit fic. I enjoyed the development and the journey to the end. The ending was tied up in a way that both provided closure and added ambiguity. Opal and Arthur were great characters. Their development was top notch. I was so invested in them. Starling House was it’s own character and was even developed.

Overall, I just really loved this and think it will go down as a top of the head.
