Breaking Rules
by Anastasija White
challenging
medium-paced
The blurb of the book got me. I love the artwork and that is why I bought the book.
Read chapter 1 of the book and I realized it is not for me but I kept reading in the hope that it would get better. Chapter 2, I couldn’t believe that the writing in the book was the same story. I had to skim some parts.
The book has some dark aspects to it. Check your trigger warnings.
I expected more from the book in terms of how the FMC and the MMC met and got along. The FMC was a doormat. The MMC was almost just as disrespectful as Jake. Again the FMC was a doormat. That’s the simplest way to describe her. I understand she went through so much in her childhood, but Jake was overkill. This FMC was so undecided about what she wanted if she was strong or weak and I think almost 50% of the book was her arguing with herself about staying or going, which was sad. Like I said, the blurb was amazingly put but the actual story and the writing was poor.
I expected life changing moment with this book. The writing was bad.
The ending. Wow. I am lost in terms of how do you end a book like that; one minute we are happy and the next it’s all gone to hell with no explanation. I guess it’s a way to keep us hooked and to want to read book 2 but no.
Maybe book 2 will redeem the whole story, but I don’t see myself reading it
