If the foreword doesn’t get pull you in, and under, I don’t know what will. I almost closed the book and gave it 5 stars right then.

This book helped heal parts of me I didn’t know needed healing and understand parts of my parents that I’d never understood or considered (things they may not have considered either).

This isn’t a book where the father reflects, sees his wrongdoings, completed changes, and is now fully understanding and accepting. But it does show a realistic depiction of how challenging change and accepting a new way of living can be between generations that have been sold and told different dreams and truths.

This is not an exploration into character development, this is a depiction of a flawed and hurt human - which we all are. Daniel Black shows the complexities of these flaws and the impact of that hurt.

Great book for all races, though it may settle harder with parents and children with black and brown skin and immigrants.
