The narration by Oliver Wyman is the strongest part of the Monster Hunter International audiobook. Wyman does an excellent job with changes in gender and accents. It was easy to identify which character was speaking. The performance itself and product quality would merit a 5-star rating.
The story/plot of Monster Hunter Internation would rate a 2 to 2.5-star rating. While there are some original concepts, the books was overwhelmed by the details of weapons. For readers/listeners who are not weapon aficionados, the passages detailing different guns are a slog to get through. The main character did not connect with me at all. The character I liked the best was Earl. I am sure this book will appeal to many people, especially if they like military type things.
I do suggest giving it a try just to experience the wonderful narration of Oliver Wyman.
