Birth of a Killer by Darren Shan

4.0

I really enjoyed this! I liked it much better than the Cirque Du Freak books. I like how dark the book was from the beginning and it was interesting seeing how Crepsley becomes the man he is in the Saga of Darren Shan.

I liked seeing how Crepsley meet all the character you know from the Cirque Du Freak book, both the vampire and the member of the Cirque Du Freak and see how different they were when he was young. I also learned some surprising things about Seba Nile that you're not told in the first series.

There were only two things I didn't like about this book, the first was that you didn't get to see Crepsley as a half vampire. That would have been really interesting especially seeing as Darren spent most of his own series as one. The second was that it had an omniscient narrator that change perspectives at random. I hate this in any book because I hate having to guess which character's head I'm in but I really hated it in this book because it gives away parts of the book that could have been used to create tension between the characters instead you given the intentions of all the characters. I felt it took away from the story.

I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
