The Treatment by Mo Hayder

4.0

A family was found gaged and tied up in their own house, but what's worse is that their young son is missing. While dealing with the consequences of his previous case, detective Jack Caffery takes it upon himself to solve this case, but the similarities with the disappearance of his little brother makes it difficult for him to distinguish the two cases.

Mo Hayder takes it even further with this book, it's darker, more gruesome and stomach turning. While it deals with heavy subjects, like pedophilia, it also depicts detailed scenes of violence. This book pretty much evokes general disgust, but it had me hooked from the first page. My twisted mind loves disturbing and dark thrillers, the more the better.

Jack Caffery is somehow even more unlikeable then before and I couldn't really feel for him or justify his actions, but I still didn't hate him. Rebecca is the one that stood out to me and I wish there was even more of her story. Characters in general feel real and complex.

Hayder is definitely a master of her craft and I'm planning to continue with this series and her other books too.
