Batman: The Dark Knight Returns
by Frank Miller
Frank Miller's got a pretty good comic here, eh!? Batman comes off as sort of an elderly, obsessive, senile fascist but somehow Ronald Reagan still manages to be the least likable, most horrendously evil character as always. There are definitely some homophobic and misogynistic undertones as is typical of Frank. That said, the art never loses the gritty, tragic feel that makes the story so enthralling. The pacing is great, and the fights are epic. A genuinely creative take on real old characters. Love what he does with the other characters in the Batman-verse. They all seem decrepit, aged, and cynical in a diverse set of ways. Like more ways than you could think of someone being old. Kinda makes ya sad. But pretty good comic.
