This book is, in one word, startling. This book should absolutely startle you awake as it tells stories of real people that most of us have probably never heard before but should know about.  These stories aren’t pretty or sugar-coated and the emotion of each one comes right off the page.  This book is also about what it feels like to be forgotten, discarded and abused in a country touting the American dream.  The author speaks in the most direct and unapologetically honest way.  It is such an important book and should be required reading.  I highly recommend it!
