Another book club read.  We had previously read Project Hail Mary which I loved so I had high hopes for The Martian, and it did not disappoint!
This book primarily focuses on Mark's perspective on Mars so a lot of it read as journal entries which I added a lot of personality to it and insight into his mind.  It would have been harder to capture that had it been written more from a 3rd person perspective.  I felt anxious reading this because it was so immersive.  The story flips back and forth between Mark and scientists back on earth which really helped paint the bigger picture of what happened and how we got here.
Mark's resilience and general positive attitude certainly attributed to his survival.
Highly recommend.
