As I Lay Dying
by William Faulkner
Hm. I know I'm supposed to be all literary and sophisticated and all that. I get why Faulkner is a big deal, but this book was not for me. In some ways, this book reminded me of Steinbeck's [b:The Grapes of Wrath|18114322|The Grapes of Wrath|John Steinbeck|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1375670575s/18114322.jpg|2931549], but I liked [b:The Grapes of Wrath|18114322|The Grapes of Wrath|John Steinbeck|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1375670575s/18114322.jpg|2931549] a lot more. A family on hard times going on a journey together, dealing with their family shit while also exploring the world around them.
It's beautifully and intensely written, obviously. I know it's a classic and I understand why it's a classic, but I'm honestly not sure how much more of Faulkner I want to read after this one. This book seems to be recommended as a good starter by Faulkner fans, and it didn't pull me in. Is there another Faulkner I should try before throwing in the towel?
