I was almost definitely rating this 3 stars until I got to the very end. I didn't realize how invested I was. If I had been reading the physical book and not the ebook, I would have thrown it after that last page.

I really like what Hank has created here. There's a mystery, but the real focus is on our incredibly flawed main character. She does some really dumb stuff, but I still found myself rooting for her. Like most of us, she doesn't always make good choices, but she has good intentions.

If you want to read this to find out about what the Carls are or what they're here for, get ready to wait. I'm hoping book 2 will get more into that!
