This was… wow. It starts off as a love letter to an English village and then becomes so much more. It’s hard to describe this book without spoiling it. I loved Pete and Lanny making art together. I loved all the snippets of dialogue from the villagers throughout - having recently moved to a small close knit English village I could hear it all perfectly. Some of the sub plots and characterisations were great. The climax sequence was really interesting but the ending felt a bit flat - I wish they’d stuck with what they were preparing you for, almost? Even if that was objectively worse. But yeah, it was a perfect book for this time of year, all kinds of creepy and I wasn’t expecting it to be!
