The book was a pleasure to read, but I struggle with the fact that most of the conversation was around the mean, very little around the standard deviation.

Mean statistics are great for describing outcomes in the aggregate, that is across years and or leagues, but are terrible for giving a sense of the reasonableness of an individual outcome. In perhaps as many as half of the graphs I wanted to draw little error bars to get a sense of how much wiggle room there was in the statistics, particularly when the authors were drawing conclusions about individual managers or players.

Still, interesting stuff. Just could’ve been more robust.
