The Boy at the Top of the Mountain by John Boyne
5.0
Power Corrupts Absolutely
A remarkable novel and a rare viewpoint. How a young, innocent boy can become corrupted through indoctrination, and learn to turn away from that he loved to despise and hate.
A very powerful novel that places us within Hitler's villa in Berchtesgaden, as the war unfolds and Pierrot a young orphan, falls deeper under the spell of the Führer. Unblinkingly resolute in defending the cause of Nazi Germany, at the greatest cost to those around him and to himself.
Many points to consider and a book that is short in length, but will remain long in the memory.
Upsetting and disturbing, but empathetic and redemptive, The Boy at the Top of The Mountain deserves to be read.
