TW: rape, teacher-child sexual assault
This book is heavy, and I think so very important, especially for teens, parents of teens, friends of people who are survivors of sexual assault.
I was very much invested in our main character Mara, and her close friends. There are parts where I almost yelled at the book when I thought she was about to make a huge mistake, and where I cried when she or her friends were hurt, physically or emotionally, by guys in the story.
I can imagine how hard it has to be to write a story like this, especially aimed for YA. I appreciate the level of detail AH gave when she did and how it felt appropriate.
I’m also happy when this book ends that we haven’t heard the discussions Mara has with her parents, or how everyone may change going forward. I just hope that they all do. I have faith that Mara will be finding ways to survive and thrive, not just survive.
