Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari

2.0

this was infuriating to read. i legitimately was shouting ‘no!’ at harari more than once. considering i didn’t like ‘sapiens’ i’ll defend myself in reading this by saying i bought a copy before i’d read sapiens and had heard good things.

the danger with someone like harari is that he’s clearly a smart, highly qualified guy and that lends a certain weight to what he says. i therefore think he has a responsibility to be careful not to mislead his readers. he is not remotely careful. just like with sapiens, he consistently presents opinion as fact and philosophy as science and sociology.

it’s not that i necessarily take issue with his opinions, some of the time i was with him, other times i strongly disagreed but i can absolutely live with that in a book. the problem comes when harari makes bold philosophical statements with zero or very little disclaimer and next to no citation or reference.

boooo didn’t like it no more harari for me.
