77 Shadow Street by Dean Koontz
2.0
There are several reviews for this book that state that this is a return of the "Koontz of old". A return to the days when he wrote about haunted houses, truly scary monsters made from bad lab experiments, sci-fi nanotechnology gone bad, sci-fi time travel to times with horrific creatures that boggle the imagination, and children characters with mental or physical disabilities they have to overcome to save the day. Unfortunately, Koontz decides to put each and every one of the aforementioned ideas into this story and the result is a bit of a mess.
I still enjoy Koontz's writing (although I do tend to have to use the "look up word" option on my Nook a bit more than with other authors...he likes them fancy words!), and he does a great job of creating several interesting characters and building up suspense. However, in the end, it's the plot that counts and I felt this one had a bit too much going on to give it more than just an "it was o.k.".
