The Shadows of Men by Abir Mukherjee

3.0

'Even with the facts becoming clear, I still struggled to comprehend,' I sympathize with Suren's assessment of the preposterous plot. It's well written and evocative but this series seems to have peaked with the quite brilliant third novel, 'Smoke and Ashes.' The last book, 'Death in the East' was an homage to the Golden Age locked room mysteries and this is reminiscent of a James Bond movie. It's a tired outing for Suren and Sam but writing five books in five years is a major challenge. Perhaps Mukherjee should take a couple of years off?
