Just finished reading Jackalope Wives. Wow, I haven't enjoyed a short story this much in quite a long time. As Raveneye mentioned, I really liked the shift in narration between the sections, how it kind of zooms in like a camera in the third section. Some of the language reminds me of Cormac McCarthy, and some of it is deeply poetic and beautiful even. The idea itself is very strong, but the way the story is told is even more so. I loved the actions and reactions of the characters. I can definitely feel a love (if that's the right word -- appreciation) of nature, of plants, the moon, etc when reading this story too, which I thought was nice to hear, as we often take these things for granted.
