I've been a fan of McFly for a few years, but sadly didn't have the braincells to follow them properly when they first launched as a band and released the music which is discussed in Unsaid Things. As a result, this book taught me loads about the band which I didn't know before, and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring the background of McFly from the perspective of its four members.

I was impressed by the general angle the boys took in this overview of their early lives and band experience. They go through things in a relatively straightforward, chronological order, but there was actually less focus on the music they produced than I anticipated. I saw this as a good thing because things like what tracks are about and how they put together their albums is information already in the public domain and no doubt already spoken about in depth when the albums were released; readers don't necessarily need to be told all of this again. Instead, I felt we were really given a behind-the-scenes insight into their lives and what went on in the moments between physical song-writing or performing.

I was also pleased to see that the band seemed open and honest in their commentary and reflections on their past. Rarely did they become defensive about mistakes or difficult periods - they took responsibility and just told things as they were, simply presenting their emotions at the time and the way they view things in retrospect.

Similarly, it was nice to be able to recognise clear growth in each member over the years they recount. There is a very overt sense of maturity which becomes more and more apparent as time moves on and you can see how they have aged and learnt from what they have been through.

I've docked a star because I'm a bit unsure about how the band spoke about certain figures - some famous, some not - who played a part in their lives. At times their commentary felt a bit disrespectful, and unnecessarily so. But again, I appreciate their honesty at least, and nothing was said was too damaging.

All in all a very strong biography which ran through the band's beginnings and busiest periods. I truly had lots of fun reading and it has really put me in the mood for more celeb bios now!
