The Help
by Kathryn Stockett
I loved this book! I would have recommended it for my book club, but it is not out in paperback yet. Told through the eyes of several key characters, the story revolves around the not-yet evolving state of racism in the south during the 1960's. I saw it as what happens when bullies are perceived to have extraordinary power, and too many people feel like if it ain't broke don't fix it. Eventually, a small group finds the courage, confidence, and support to make their own statement, fearing for their safety all the while. I would recommend this book to almost anyone: it is an easy read, well-written, thoughtful and thought-provoking.
