Picked it up randomly in my neighborhood bookstore and finished it in two days, despite re-reading some parts a couple of times to help them sink in. Almost certainly the best book I've read this year. It's part The Odyssey (in reverse), part Western hyper-realism, reminds me of both Marques and Saramago while standing on its own and being in no way secondary. It's often sad, sometimes difficult,  incredibly endearing, and very very pretty.
