My Bookstore: Writers Celebrate Their Favorite Places to Browse, Read, and Shop by Ronald Rice, Leif Parsons

5.0

I love this book. The idea behind it, the way it is presented, the love for the indie bookstore that is its core... everything about it is an affirmation of things I've believed for a long time and have never bordered to put into words.

Did I love every single essay? No. As with all anthologies, there were authors I was not impressed by. However, most of them I did adore, and the book is so essential in itself, that hence my rating. I believe this book to be a life-changing compendium of stories about courage, intellect, humanity, home, and most of all, love.

My absolute favorite essays (in order of appearance):

1. Wendell Berry - Carmichael's Bookstore
2. Ron Curie Jr. - Longfellow Books
3. Elin Hilderbran - Nantucket Books
4. Laurie R. King - Bookshop Santa Cruz
5. Scott Lasser - Explore Booksellers
6. Ann Haywood Leal - Bank Square Books
7. Francine Prose - Strand Book Store
8. Nancy Thayer - Mitchell's Book Corner
