Get ready for "Below Deck" meets "Knives Out" with a splash of "The White Lotus" energy. "I Did Warn Her" unfolds aboard the yacht “Ophelia”, a billionaire's playground on water where the stewardesses are interchangeable blonde bombshells (literally hired to look alike) and everyone's running from something.
As newly-hired Sasha joins the crew for an Atlantic crossing, she steps into a nest of vipers disguised as a luxury vessel. When the yacht owner arrives with his business partner and two mysterious female companions, the tension builds like a tsunami wave. Soon jewelry starts disappearing, a crew member turns up dead, and suddenly everyone's a suspect in a floating house of lies where escape is impossible.
If there’s one thing I love, it’s multiple POVS and this story had characters that had me cackling and some that had me wishing for a plank. Between the claustrophobic setting of a luxury yacht (nowhere to run or hide) to the plot twists and finger pointing that keep on coming (until the very end), Gilbert’s book will have you flipping pages like they’re on fire.
The razor-sharp commentary on wealth, beauty standards and power dynamics? Oh yea, I clocked it and I LOVED IT. This is my personal thank you to Gilbert for her expertly-crafted sarcastic tone that somehow amplified both tender and chaotic moments in the most delicious way.
While the early chapters might have your head spinning a bit with a slew of characters...just trust the process: the ones that need to pop do, and the others play their parts perfectly.
