Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
2.0

It’s fascinating to me that the forward was a rather pretentious message about how he wanted the book to be very enjoyable on a surface level while still maintaining deeper meanings for those that want to dive into the text, and then he wrote…that. There are enjoyable elements throughout, but there are also moments of bad characterization, bad writing, and bad plot development. His regressive social views shone through in, frankly, unflattering ways that did the story no favors. When he did hit on something interesting he’d often shy away from really interrogating it. While there were a lot of elements — specifically sci-fi ones — that I was interested in, I can’t say I really liked this book.

This book has done just fine without my recommendation and it’ll continue to do so.
