Husband Material by Alexis Hall

3/5
I liked this book. But i gotta say I definitely liked the first book more.

Things i didn't like:

1.It didn't feel like reading a novel if felt more like reading a few epilogue-ish short stories. It wasn't necessary. The comedy was there, the characterization of the main characters was again on point. Even the side characters had better characterization than the first book to my surprise. But it didn't force me to binge read it???? I didn't felt the urge to pull an all-nighter to finish it as soon as possible like the first book. Hell if it wasn't for the one of my friends i wouldn't have finished it by now. Don't get me wrong it was still very much enjoyable but not as much the first book.

2. The ending.
SpoilerI mean who am i kidding i saw this coming from the moment Luc blurted out a proposal. Since he proposed for the wrong reasons and Oliver accepted for the wrong reasons they were stuck in a mess and couldn't get out. They both didn't want to get married. But it wasn't really explained why they were so much against marriage in general. I get it marriage isn't for everyone. But the whole thing was so last minute especially Oliver's change of opinion. His process of thinking and reaching the new decision wasn't explained to the reader so i as a reader couldn't understand him.

3. The ending- Part 2
One of the reasons I like this series and Luc and Oliver's relationship is that their relationship is more real than the most romance books. They aren't fairytale-ish perfect for each other, they have arguments and they have constant discussions. But they try to make everything work.
The thing that i hated about the ending was the thing I hated about Something Fabulous' (another book by Alexis Hall) ending. In Something Fabulous all the main character's problems were magically solved in a fairytale-ish and they-lived-happily-ever-after way. The same thing happened here too.
Spoiler Luc was fucked. He didn't want to marry Oliver but he loved him so much and there was nothing he could do at the night of their wedding. After he decided that marrying him was better than leaving him at the alter Oliver suddenly came and had a complete change of heart and they decided to cancel the wedding and run away together in the sunset (i assume)
it's a cliché cake with cliché filling and covered with cliché frosting :)
Yes that whole scene with umbrellas were so pretty but-

Overall, it wasn't bad. The good parts outweighed the cliché parts. But the first book is superior.
