Blockade Billy
by Stephen King
“I will do this because I know I can pray for forgiveness once it’s done.”
It’s been a while since I last read a Stephen King book. It was at christmas when I finished The Dark Tower series and so I thought i’d give this quick read a go. Blockade Billy and Mortality are featured in this little book. The first is a story about a baseball star and a particular event which brings into question his behaviour. Mortality is a test of ones moral thoughts and the lengths one goes to survive, that being what survival means to them.
Blockade Billy started off heavy on the topic of baseball which you would expect as King is a huge fan. The mysterious plot which is centred around one particular character is the kind I enjoy reading. The extensive thoughts on the who, what and why behind the noticeably changing behaviour of this person. Where the story comes to its conclusion I felt for me it wasn’t as surprising as I thought it would be. I don’t know if its because of the themes within the story but I didn’t enjoy it as much.
The subject matter of Mortality was quite interesting, the disturbing reality of what is happening in this story had my attention however again towards the end I didn’t enjoy it so much.
I haven’t read a lot of King’s books, I haven’t come across that many that didn’t agree with me but sadly this was one of them. The good thing for me was that it was a quick read and not a mammoth one.
