I did enjoy this book. It was meaty, and I was able to sink my teeth into it. Saoirse was a lovable FMC for me, even if I felt like we were too trapped in her head at some points. Faolan wasn’t my favorite type of MMC, but they seemed very well-matched, which I deeply appreciated.

The one thing I would say is that the magic system/world history seems a little complex and really deep for what the book ended up being—I felt like I learned so much, and so much happened within the one book, that it really could have been stretched out more over either a longer book or the rest of the series so that there was a little more mystery and buildup; there really was a reveal around every corner. Which was satisfying as I read it! But at the end I was like wow, okay. Alright then. And I think there will be more books, with the way the characters’ stories “wrapped up,” so maybe I’ll take all of this back when we’ve got more of this world later on.

But if you want adventure and a really intense but fun whirlwind of a book, this is for you!
