Freedom by Jonathan Franzen
3.0

I'd be lying if I didn't admit to eye-rolling my way through most of this book... I felt like Jeff Tweedy, NPR, and the White Stripes, just to name a few examples, had no business being there. The Joey parts were nauseating and tedious and in my opinion would have been much more satisfying if he'd been trampled to death by one of the horses in Argentina. But it was fine... entertaining overall, cinematic, blah blah. I don't get a lot of time to read these days but when I do, I have a certain appreciation for easy-breezy novels like this, with just enough drama and humor to hold my interest without making me feel like I have to stay up all night to keep reading. (Full disclosure: I'm up most of the night with a six-month-old baby anyway... who needs fiction to be intellectually challenging?! Not me.)
