Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter
5.0

All my fears, realized.
It takes a woman to write the most chilling novel I've ever read. It takes a person who is not playing around. It is hard to believe this is Karin Slaughter's debut novel written way back in 2001.
She is so good at portraying violence and crime, so energetic and effective, she doesn't need to preach or spend even a second being moralistic about it.
It is incredibly hard to write about rape in a thriller mystery without being exploytative or insensitive. But she manages to bring a sobering angry and painful look at unimaginable crimes without losing sight of the weight of all the cruel actions her villains inflict.
This novel is as chilling and grey as a Scandinavian winter. It is fast paced and unforgiving. It will make your skin crawl. It will make you doubt humanity but will also deliver hope and light at the end of a very long, very dark tunnel.
