Only If You're Lucky by Stacy Willingham

Audiobook.
Margot’s best friend, Eliza, died the summer before they were to go to college together. She’d been hanging out with new guy, Levi. Margot does not like Levi, and she doesn’t like Eliza with him. He watches her from her window, he snuck in Eliza’s house and took a picture of Eliza, Margot and Eliza’s dad off her bulletin board, he just seems creepy. Eliza dies at the high school hang out, an old, abandoned burned out school building. She fell, or was she pushed, from a top floor. The last person who had been with her was Levi, throwing immediate suspicion on him.

In the present, Margot goes to college as planned, but is haunted by Eliza’s memory. She lives in a dorm with a nice, tame girl, and doesn’t have much of a social life. Margot can’t help but notice Lucy and her friends, Sloan and Jessica. They’re always together, always having fun — the opposite of Margot’s life. Towards the end of the year, she has plans to live with her current roommate, until Lucy shows up at her room, asking if Margot wants to live with the three of them. Margot says yes, even though she doesn’t know them at all.

Margot and the three live in a house next to Kappa Nu frat. Their houses are joined by a shed along the fence line. Yay fun etc until the day Levi shows up as a pledge. And then Levi ends up dead. Suspicion is on Lucy, who seems like she’s been toying with him since Margot told the three about Levi and Eliza. And then Lucy disappears.

Spoiler : Jessica actually killed Levi. She thought it was her boyfriend, Trevor, who had been abusing her. Levi and Trevor had exchanged shirt, but Jessica didn’t know that.

Sloan killed Lucy, because Lucy had figured out Jessica killed Levi and was going to turn him in.

Lucy was actually Eliza’s half sister. Eliza’s father, who Margot loved and wished he was her own, was also Lucy’s father and he was sending her mom money to keep her quiet. When the money didn’t come (because Eliza intercepted it), Lucy decided to find him. She spied on Margot and Eliza, and was there when Eliza died.

And the last spoiler…..Margot killed (accidentally pushed but didn’t try to save her) Eliza.

The girls frame Lucy for both Eliza and Levi’s deaths. It is assumed that Lucy ran away.

Margot, Sloan and Jessica continue to live together, each of them bound by their secrets.

Plot holes:
The envelope of cash in Eliza’s drawer that had Lucy’s address — He wouldn’t send thousands of dollars of cash through the mail. And wouldn’t it have a name on it when Eliza intercepted it?

Why wouldn’t Lucy befriend Margot her freshman year? They never even talked. Lucy took a huge chance playing the long game and assuming Margot would randomly live with the three of them. It would have been easier to slowly make friends with her the year they lived in the dorm.

Also, where did Lucy keep all her clothes and things? She wasn’t actually a student, and basically unofficially lived with Jessica and Sloan.
