One of those books I can immediately tell will stick with my for a very long time.

☆☆2nd read of this book, even better than the first. I feel like knowing how it ends just make it all so much sadder.
I mean, just how Eleanor feels like she isn't wanted by anybody (ultimately, as, she walks alone, is implied to not even be wanted by Hill House in death), feels she has no home, no friends or loved ones to rely one, and clearly her being her mother's caretaker really took a toll on her - on top of perhaps not having had a very good relationship with her mother. And then she meets Luke, Theodora, and Dr. Montague, and she's not even seemingly wanted by them :(.

And then just her just wanting peace and fun, and never having really experienced it in her memory, until she got to Hill House... I can see why she felt she couldn't leave. Aghh this book is even more imprinted onto my brain now.

It was also fun, after having watched the TV show adaptation, to reread this and find the similarities and inspirations! Very clever inspirations in some cases imo. Still one of my favorite books of all time.
