brat summer is over besties, it’s time for toxic lesbian vampire autumn!

seriously though, i’m absolutely adoring the comeback of gothic horror. this book was everything a contemporary gothic novel should have — lush prose, existential themes of immortality and the corruption of one’s soul, evil and rot and decay hiding under an irresistible and sexy exterior, vampirism as a metaphor for sex and desire… i could go on forever.

my one qualm — i really couldn’t care less about Alice and I truly think her storyline could have been cut. i really just found her POV to be really repetitive and i personally don’t think it really added that much to the story 🤷🏻‍♀️ but besides that, it was a phenomenal read, v.e. schwab does not disappoint!
