4.5

The Secret of Whale Island by Thea Stilton published in 2013. Im not a huge graphic novel reader so this was interesting for me but I actually found it fun! <comics> <mystery> <lighthearted> This story starts by getting the characters ready for a new school year at Whale Island's Mouseford Academy. It tells us that there are two traditions at the start of a new school year, the school dance, and the whales arriving at the island. But this year something is wrong. A whale arrives early and without the others and even attacks some fishing boats.  This story goes on to follow the Thea Sisters trying to solve the mystery and figure out what's going on with the whales. I think this book was overall just fun to read. I think I will have it in my class for a fun read but could also use it when talking about graphic novels. I could read this throughout the week and at the end have students try their own strip of comics. I think graphic novels would be enjoyed by a lot of students so will definitely have this a few more in my classroom!
