The Swimming-Pool Library by Alan Hollinghurst
5.0

I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that when it comes to literary fiction Alan Hollinghurst is 'my guy' as it were. Just a perfect novel - the prose is literally brilliant and erotically charged without ever descending into filth and the characters and their lives feel very real and i get the feeling that hanging out with Will, James et al at the Corry would be a grand old time.

The historical perspective of the less enlightened past with regard to gay life is brought firmly home in the diaries of Lord Nantwich and James's sub plot, as we're shown that even in the 1980s there was still so far to go.

Really as literary fiction goes I can't recommend this book highly enough, as with Line of Beauty, just superb.
