ehnette 's review for:
Love in the Time of Cholera
by Gabriel García Márquez
This is not a book about love. The whole plot twists the idea of love, romanticising lovesickness into an actual disease. I would go as far as to say that Florentino's obsession with Fermina Daza is the antiquated version of 'YOU'.
While I loved the writing, I can't say that I can get onboard with the protagonist, Florentino, who is at the end of the day, a weak-willed man who preys on women who are vulnerable. At the same time, leaving more capable women to care for him and his company.
