Wild Moon by C.R. Jane

5.0

Wild Moon is the first book in C.R. Jane and Mila Young’s collaboration for the Kingdom of Wolves series. These two authors come together to introduce readers to a young woman on the run, she was taught that finding your true mat would be a wonderful thing, but what she got was a complete nightmare. She manages to find a safe haven, purely by accident, but it seems that even here there is a vicious and cold danger.
Wild Moon is an engaging novel and I have to say that Rune intrigues me as well as her story as to why she is on the run and what exactly has happened to her. Piece by piece these two authors come together to weave this story and bring readers into a world of shifters and humans. A small town that is isolated from the world and that she wasn’t supposed to find, but she did. Rune wants to hide from the man she once called mate. The authors build the intrigue as to why she would run away from and even the lengths that she would go to escape. For some readers, this book might be a bit hard to read. While there are not any scenes depicting exactly the traumas that Rune experienced at her ex’s hands, it is mentioned throughout to help set the stage and better develop understanding of what exactly she has been through.
While Rune sees herself as a weak individual, the authors do an excellent job at showing the spine of steel that she carries deep inside. Though Rune had no intentions of falling for two handsome wolves that she meets in this small town it’s not long before she finds exactly that happening. My curiosity concerning their animosity towards each other only grows with each turn of the page, but the authors don’t leave me dying of curiosity. The truth is eventually revealed, but it’s a truth that makes me curious…could they ever truly work past these things that have divided them?
As this book is well written and really hard to put down, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. You get backstory and explanation in the right moments, and you get a nice amount of steamy here and there as well. The steamy moments happen spontaneously, but it’s enough set up in some cases to let you know its coming. I’m eager to learn what happens next as Rune makes a terrible discovery at the end that leads to a tense cliffhanger. If you are a fan of these two authors’ collabs then you’re not going to want to miss out on this new series!
