Fire Heart by Emma Hamm

I really wanted to like this one and didn’t. I got it as a part of my bookish subscription box and was really excited to read it. It has elements of everything that I enjoy about fantasy books.

I felt the book was lacking depth. I couldn’t connect with the characters. The King was insufferable but not in the way you would expect a villain to be. I didn’t want to read about him at all. I felt there was no connection or chemistry between Lorelei and Abraxas.

The whole book reminded me of a Throne of Glass knock off. Girl goes undercover to try to kill a king. I wasn’t surprised by anything. I really didn’t feel anything at all.

I want a book that makes me laugh, cry, feel hatred, feel surprised, or just any emotion in general. This didn’t do it for me.

The ending was suppose to be a cliff hanger and yet I have no desire to continue reading this series. The only reason I didn’t dnf it is because it was a short book I thought I would see through in the hopes it got better. It didn’t. And Celaena is a much more likable character than Lorelei anyways so if I want to read a better version of the same story, I’ll reread TOG.
