We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

4.0

Dang that was a wild ride.

The twist at the ending really threw me for a loop, but it is definitely a 2014-esche twist. In some ways, I could have seen it. I've read books with similar twists from this period before, but it didn't stop my reaction. Since the trend is outdated, I completely forgot about it, which made it still have an impact.

I loved the way this was told. It was quick and sharp and lyrical in some ways. Sometimes it did seem as if Lockhart was trying too hard to be deep and poetic, but I could look over that. I did not care for Cadence's whining. I get it, she's depressed, but still. And it felt so nice when she was reality checked.

I can definitely see the appeal of this book. Though I can't say for sure, this may just be one I keep on my shelf and reread sometime in the future.
