The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
5.0
I whole-heartedly loved this book and on so many different levels. Firstly, I couldn't help but smile that there were constant Japanese and Russian motifs, especially the fact that it continuously touched on Anna Karenina--my favorite novel of all time.
Second, it was so incredibly and intelligently written it challenged me, which has not happened for a while, I love that every few chapters I needed to take a break and think about what I had read.
Lastly, camellias. The brightness of hope that is found in the end through an unforeseen tragedy was, truly, elegant. This random purchase has found a place on my favorite's shelf and will be read over again in times of sadness and self-confusion.
