Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield

5.0

I could read Katherine Mansfield’s short stories all day. The three in this collection were all excellent albeit poignant.

Each of the stories are simultaneously both so warming and so devastating. Mansfield is a master of painting the scene so richly and vividly while simultaneously capturing the inner dialogue, emotions and driver of her characters so deeply - and in so few pages!

The everyday callousness of the characters is shocking but also resonates so deeply because of how commonplace it is and more often than not, how unintentional it is.

Each of these stories demonstrates so perfectly what is means to be human. I want to read more of them!
