I am always intrigued by the devices Winchester uses in putting his books together. In this case it is the five elements. One critic says that this gives the book a "forced " feeling, but I think it forces the writer and therefore the reader to look at old things in new ways. I was not disappointed here and enjoyed both the stories from history and the anecdotes of Winchester's explorations to discern the stories more deeply. Well done!
