I had a really hard time with this book. First of all, the main character is 9 but his IQ seems to be that of a much, much younger child. I can't imagine a 9 year old being so utterly clueless about what is going on around them. I didn't find it cute or endearing at all that they were calling Auschwitz "out-with"-- it seemed to trivialize what really went on for me. I was really disappointed and frankly, I am really surprised that somebody made a movie of this book.
