Ace of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé

5.0

The list of TWs for this book are massive. Homophobia, police brutality, abuse (sexual, mental, physical, etc), RACISM, just…this was a rough one.

This may be one of the most startling uncomfortable excellent books I’ve read this year. I’ve seen it described as a combination of Gossip Girl meets Get Out, and honestly that’s one of the best parallels I’ve heard. It’s pretty much spot on. It’s horrific, chilling, intimate, and intense.

This book made me, as a non-Black person, uncomfortable. That’s a good thing. This was a good good good book.
