Defy the Fates by Claudia Gray

4.0

I think this one made the mistake of going back to being very plot heavy like the first one. The first felt chaotic and the second struck the balance between plot/action and character/relationship development perfectly in my opinion. But then this one returned to the pattern of chaos and continuous problems that needed addressing, which on one hand makes more sense for the end of a trilogy that involves an interplanetary war but it also meant there was less time to explore the character connections that are what make this series so special, especially as these characters experienced some huge life altering experiences in this book, things that also raise interesting philosophical questions. I wish those concepts and relationships had just a little bit more time to breath like in the second book although they were still there. I also felt the epilogue was too cursory and wanted more time to enjoy that space with the characters after all the turmoil i endured to get there.
